LOUISE BLYTON MULOONING Catalogue
Louise Blyton’s practice integrates method and meaning through a meticulous engagement with reductivist techniques. In her exhibition Muloooning, her handcrafted works occupy a nuanced space between painting and sculpture, where form, colour, and texture are considered with equal weight.
Blyton constructs her pieces by first creating wooden forms, which she then covers with linen. The linen is carefully hand-cut and applied in a manner that minimizes folds and seams, emphasizing a refined, minimalist surface. Multiple layers of acrylic paint are meticulously applied to the untreated linen, with Blyton seeking to distill the most direct expression of colour through minimal intervention.
As each piece evolves, the relationship between light, shadow, and color becomes dynamic, with the form’s character shifting in response to the interplay of the raw linen and painted surfaces. Blyton’s practice is as much concerned with the formal convergence of these elements as it is with the transformation of raw materials into aesthetic objects that carry a transcendent quality, projecting meaning and presence into the space they inhabit.
