The Remnants Of Johannes Cardigan

  Johannes’ cardigan was intended to be an exploration of colour based on the theories of Johannes Itten. Initially, I worked with contrasting hues pushing the paint through hand knitted swatches that I had made over a period of six months as I taught myself to knit. After several attempts to work with Itten’s prescribed colour combinations I found myself varying the colours according to the subject. Each knitted piece seemed to cry out for its own contrasting hues, sometimes homely, often grotesque. The of Johannes Cardigan is a representation of failed intent which at the same time ended up where it had to go.
