Autumn Intimates
March 6 – 28th, 2026
Brisbane-based artist Kitty Horton completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at Queensland College of Art. She has exhibited solo shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, along with group shows throughout Australia. Kitty’s artworks are held in private collections in Australia, New Zealand and France. She is an arts educator and consistently collaborates with multiple art communities within Queensland. Kitty’s latest collection of small works embrace abstraction as a way of thinking—one that unfolds through doing rather than planning. It allows for processing thoughts and navigating the internal journey. These paintings explore the tension between chaos and clarity, drawing on design and interior forms to sustain a consistent narrative across multiple studio sessions. These oil paintings explore a delicate balancing act, shifting between active lines, automatic gestural marks, and glazes of colour. Transparent autumn hues contrast with opaque pastel tints, creating an opposing yet harmonious relationship. Within each piece, layers of colour and marks interact in a dialogue of resolution and refinement, though perfection is never the intention. Instead, playfulness and the abandonment of control remain the desired outcome.
