Hot Minute forms part of an ongoing investigation into colour as a relational, spatial, and perceptual phenomenon. I am interested in the capacity of colour to generate both the illusion—and at times the sensation—of dimensional space within the limits of the painted surface. I seek to engage colour as an active material that constructs, destabilises, and continually reconfigures compositional space. My practice examines the responsive behaviour of colour in relation to colour: its capacity to unsettle fixed spatial hierarchies and renegotiate perception and experience.

The work is grounded in observations of urban architectural environments, particularly the relationship between the geometric order of exterior façades and the layered complexity of interior space. These spatial encounters are manipulated and abstracted into motifs that provide a compositional framework for investigating the material, temporal and perceptual properties of form and colour.

Hot Minute is an idiom meaning either a brief moment or a very long period of time, referencing a renegotiation of chromatic relationships, with open-ended encounters in which meaning emerges through perceptual ambiguity and space is experienced through the contingent behaviour of colour relationships.
