‘Smells Like Content’ is a visual investigation of rich metaphors and illusions inspired by the iconic track of the same name by American musical duo, The Books.

Since its release in 2005, the song’s subtext has been widely debated and its definitive meaning continues to challenge audiences. The song writing delivers an engaging interplay and powerfully catalogues and combines fragments of language into a synthesised whole.

This concept of coalescing the discordant is compelling and currently drives investigations in my practice. ‘Smells Like Content’ will be a continuation of my exploration into the visual language of abstraction. Filled with analogies, rhythms and metaphors, this exhibition of new paintings will present discoveries that celebrate the accuracy of geometry and the imprecision of human expression.
