Geogram
02.03.22 – 19.03.22
Geogram connects multiple sites via a constructed language designed to map place via emotional cartography. Each geogram is linked to an ‘untranslatable word’ from a language spoken in Melbourne, describing the meaning its connected way of being in terms of play, place, mood and language. In this way multiple mappings of place occur: in the abstraction of the gallery space, the actual space connected to the gallery through public art, the alternate map of Footscray, and the journey through place itself. The geograms begin in the gallery, move out onto Hopkins Street and are ultimately situated as part of 64 Ways of Being, an urban adventure that reimagines the past, present, and future of Footscray.
