The origin of this work is situated within the photographic documentation of my previous sculpture and installation work.Using photo editing software to stretch and compress this source material, I create a series of unique and decontextualised images, which are then used as a guide for my watercolour paintings.
Employing a combination of mark making and erasure, over time, the manipulated source images become less of a map and more of a memory, from which an intuitive response to line and colour is activated. The resulting work hovers in a space between painting and drawing and speaks of traces, echoes and of the possibility to re-imagine and re-interpret material and to create new narratives.
