Distil
27.04.22 – 14.05.22
Everything will happen in time. Distil follows an interest in the methodical nature of time, and the potential that lies in any moment just beyond the present. These moments, both hidden and revealed in time, rupture the rhythm of the surrounds which is suddenly drawn into question. Imperceptible until its intervention, this rupture is often profound and irreversible – physically and or psychologically shifting our perception – which is not what it was only moments earlier.
Do these moments spring forth totally unannounced, or do they gradually emerge? At what point did we commence our journey toward the time and place of their emergence? Was it avoidable? Was it necessary to be avoided?
Distil looks at time as a process of constant unveiling. Repetition, bordering on monotony, accumulates to reveal a picture rather than obscure it. Working with the idea of amplification, the process of repeat sounds, and actions are employed to turn micro into macro, setting up a scenario that allows – if not encourages – the emergence of anything that may be waiting in the near future.
