The paintings are essentially an art of quotations, translations, satire, limitations and double takes. They articulate a minimalist aesthetic and conceptual approach to painting, in a playfully sophisticated blend of art historical references, wit, and contemporary revisionism. Oppositions are suggested—between reality and artificiality, representation and materiality, abstraction and figuration, and the manual and mechanical. Perception and recognition are explored through abstracting, altering and repeating elements of familiar diagrammatic imagery, text, and iconic paintings.
