The Return

THE RETURN stems from a curiosity around the relationship between the mod fashion movement and early to mid-20th-century geometric abstraction. I’ve taken as my influence the mod fashion pioneer Mary Quant – a devotee of the geometric fantasies of Kandinsky and Mondrian – and the American fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, who took influence from the Bauhaus, the Wiener Werkstätte and the Op Art movement.

My paintings reposition the geometry of mod textiles into large format works that merge references to Quant and Gernreich’s designs with the early modernist sources that inspired them.
