The Sanctuary of Silence

Standing quietly, pondering the silence of these works, one can explore your dreams and the heartbreak that might have been. This is not Italo Calvino’s tavern in the muting forest near The Castle of Crossed Identities. These are not Tarot cards to guide your understanding of the provocations that life imposes.Hiding in a crowd is safe. Massed objects conceal. Identity is destroyed.

The improvised taped paintings of Raymond Carter are elusive. They hint at the familiar. They offer memories. They are a language of signs: codes that are almost broken. You begin to make connections, and see references to some vast history.

A single resolved part of a puzzle is a step to fulfillment in the Sanctuary of Silence.
