Project Space 4
Voids exhibition contemplates the possibilities of space, through processes of intervention and temporal assemblage. Artwork arrangements and performative gestures will take forms specific to site, embracing translating metaphors of the habitually unobserved. Artists consider notions of the in-between, both timely, spatial and metaphoric, by emphasising the features of the clean space, otherwise activating voids. This translates to the unseen, unutilised, unobserved or the abnormal. Just as the works are of a temporal nature, as are people’s encounters. Bodies are situated only temporarily in the space, summoned as equals to the works that adhere to the space. This situatedness applies to the body and installations alike, as people are encouraged to manoeuvre around or crouch, peep, readjust the body to observe works. Installations pose a dialogue between the figure and object. Viewers are participants in its activation as an inhabited space. Interventions take immaterial and material form, their subtly or minimal rupture teasing a dialogue with the architecture. Artworks evolve on site in processes of play and intuition as artists respond to the space. The title Void speaks to the activation of space and statuses of the Gallery, both spatially and socially. Proposed modes of installation embody intentional rejection and disruption, prompting the body to adjust to the space to view.
