Born 1970 Kyoto, Japan
Lives and works Dusseldorf, Germany
Keisuke Matsuura (b. 1970, Kyoto, Japan) is a Düsseldorf-based artist whose practice explores the relationship between geometry and natural phenomena. After studying at Tama Art University in Tokyo, he relocated to Germany in 1997 to attend the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he studied under Christian Megert and Daniel Buren.
Influenced by the ZERO movement and the Japanese concept of ku (emptiness), Matsuura creates works that reveal unseen forces such as light, air, and magnetism. His installations and monochrome paintings often employ subtle structural distortions, allowing environmental and magnetic fields to shape geometric forms.
Matsuura has exhibited internationally across Europe and Asia, with solo exhibitions at Imura Art Gallery (Kyoto), Chabot Fine Art (The Hague), and Stiftung Schloss und Park Benrath (Düsseldorf). His work is held in several public and private collections, including the Max Bill Foundation and the Walter Leblanc Foundation.
