Wall symbolises barriers that are impossible to cross, penetrate and overcome. It implies a boundary of ownership and the power and prosperity of the inhabitants. Lucy Xia brings together the Forbidden City walls, that show historical traces and deteriorated colours.

The Forbidden City was designed to be the centre of ancient China, and the structure we are left with evoke our imagination of the past and perpetuity.

Jenny Zhe Chang’s Yin and Yang symbol reflects a fundamental Chinese philosophy that has existed for thousands of years and its principle describes how opposite dynamics may be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world.

The Forbidden City was the pinnacle of two thousand years of development of classical Chinese and East Asian architecture, and provides inspiration for many artistic works and architecture. Like Yin and Yang itself, all the lasting creations both deteriorate over time, and elevate in reverence.
