Zilch
03.07.19 – 20.07.19
ZILCH investigates the possibilities for painting through a process of distillation. The paintings are based on an extreme reductive aesthetic (and sometimes repetition), the process limited by parameters such as the ‘already-made’ and standardisation. The elemental forms, limited intervention or gesture, and restricted monochromatic palette emphasises the rigorous economy and simplicity of the paintings. The ‘distillation’ removes anything non-essential to leave the pure and basic elements of painting, emphasising ‘paint’, ‘painted’ and ‘painting’, whilst edging painting to its so-called ‘zero degree’.
