Take Note
14.04.21 – 01.05.21
Take Note is an installation of hand-written notes that have been enlarged then painted or drawn onto paper, canvas or board. The original notes, found in public places such as car parks, office kitchens and footpaths, contain instructions, lists and reminders. At a glance they seem banal, but when detached from their original context they make compelling artefacts. Each one has a unique sensibility. The handwriting and scuffs on the paper are visually intriguing yet offer scant explanation. We are left to read between the lines. Yet these inconsequential notes offer whimsical and poetic insight into the human condition. Rendering them as works of art brings attention to unnoticed and revealing social narratives. In an exhibition context the notes become more vivid, take on new meaning, open up unexpected conversations.
