Lines Between
18.05.22 – 04.06.22

This new series of paintings sprang from the fact that I prefer (at least at the moment) to work on wood rather than paper. Having first completed studies for Lines Between on paper, and feeling satisfied with the the colour, pattern, and movement of each of the works, I then set about recreating them on wood. I find working with wood is a more tactile and rewarding experience. The process of shaping of the wooden construct becomes central to the work, I feel it it offers more than paper, that is often just a substrate to be painted on. The form and shape of each panel creates a strong connection between image and material that transforms the overall work, hopefully, into a more complete experience.

In Lines Between I’ve added converging and diverging lines of colour, soft edges and wrapped the work in a reflected shadow, in an effort convey a sense of the illusion of form.
